Reimagining an Space – Caja de Cultura de Torrelodones by Gabriel Gallegos Borges

The Caja de Cultura de Torrelodones stands as a revitalized cultural landmark, breathing new life into a once commercial space. Originally designed by renowned architect Fco. Javier Sáenz de Oíza in 1994, the building's transformation reflects a thoughtful approach to adapting a functional structure for a new community-focused purpose.

Envisioned to meet the changing needs of Torrelodones, the transformation preserved the building’s structural essence while embracing modern interventions. This renovation sought to enhance the building's spatial experience, integrating flexibility and functionality to suit its new role as a cultural facility. The result is a harmonious blend of the original architectural vision with contemporary adaptations, creating an inviting space that fosters creativity and community engagement.

Wellness and Architecture – Health Center de Bembibre by Gabriel Gallegos Borges

The Health Center de Bembibre emerges as a thoughtful architectural response that reflects a deep sensitivity to its natural surroundings and the community's needs. Located on the outskirts of Bembibre, a town in the El Bierzo region of León, Spain, the new health center stands on the site of a former sports field. The structure not only meets functional requirements but also enhances the town’s landscape, blending seamlessly with the adjacent park while respecting the area’s history and environmental conditions.

The site’s location on the periphery near the N-6 highway provides convenient access via the existing road network, facilitating connections for both patients and emergency vehicles. The grounds, which required significant preparation due to their position in the Pradoluengo stream valley, were raised to match the levels of surrounding streets. This terracing not only resolves potential flooding risks but also enhances the relationship between the building and its neighboring public spaces, such as the park to the south.

A Dialogue with History – Centro Cultural Carbajosa de la Sagrada by Gabriel Gallegos Borges

Located in the heart of Carbajosa de la Sagrada, a municipality near the city of Salamanca, the Centro Cultural occupies a prominent position in the Plaza de la Constitución. It stands alongside the historic Iglesia de la Asunción, the only remaining structure that embodies the town's historical essence amid a rapidly modernizing landscape. The cultural center’s design pays homage to the past while addressing the dynamic needs of the present, serving as a contemporary hub for cultural engagement.

Inspired by the open and light nature of the nearby church’s portico and columned arrangement, the building functions as a modern-day stoa – a versatile, open gallery inviting public use. It embraces the concept of permeability, allowing the line between indoor and outdoor spaces to blur. By day, the portico shields the interior from the sun, creating a private retreat while fostering a sense of continuity with the plaza outside. At night, the interior spaces come alive as cultural activities unfold, projecting an outward vibrancy that transforms the building into a stage, with visitors as the performers.
